Pulsar leads the thermal optics industry with years of innovation. Their shooter-focused designs have produced some of the best thermals available. Their latest release is the Thermion 2 LRF XL60.
Thermion 2 LRF XL60 – New From Pulsar
This optic targets serious hunters or night shooters who want true long-range performance with class-leading image quality and smart features that actually help in the field, not just on a spec sheet.

At the heart of the XL60 is a 1024×768, 12-micron thermal sensor paired with a fast F60/1.1 germanium lens. That combination delivers a very detailed image and makes small heat signatures easier to detect in low-contrast conditions, such as humid nights or light rain. The NETD sensitivity is <35 mK, and sNETD is <20mK, which helps the scope separate game from background clutter when cheaper units start to smear everything together.
Magnification ranges from 2.5x to 20x, offering both broad scanning and long-range precision. An 11.7-degree field of view allows easy tracking of moving animals, and detection range reaches up to 2,800 meters for spotting distant targets.

Shooter Friendly Design
The XL60 features a shooter-friendly design and a crisp 2560×2560 micro-OLED display. Long eye relief and a wide-angle eyepiece provide comfort and safety. Rated for up to .375 H&H and 12-gauge cartridges, it handles hard-recoiling rifles.
The “LRF” in the name is not a gimmick. The integrated laser rangefinder reaches about 800 meters and ties into Pulsar’s Stream Vision ballistic system. That link allows you to range a target and quickly get a corrected hold solution without juggling a separate rangefinder and phone.
The XL60 records photo and video with 64 GB of internal memory. Dual APS batteries support long outings, and an IPX7 waterproof rating ensures reliability in rough weather. Mounting is simple with included hardware, and its form factor fits most rifles naturally.

Test Drive
I had the opportunity to test drive the new Thermion 2 LRF XL60at a writer’s event in Texas.
The goal of the event was to demonstrate the latest features of the optic to us all and let us take a test drive. That test drive was two-fold. First, we did what I have never done before. I shot steel at 1200 yards with the new thermal. The unique ballistic computer adjusted the reticle as we moved further and further out. The result was a string of hits at over half a mile.

Hunting
The second test took place as the sun went down. We were in South Central Texas, which meant prime hog country. Two things stood out on the two nights of hunting. First was the picture’s clarity, and second was the recording feature. The new Thermion has a unique design that initiates recording when the gun is fired. In fact, it catches the thrirty seconds prior to the shot as well. This makes recording your hunts effortless.
