DEX FingerLight — Light At Your Fingertips

I’m not much of a gadget person. I use what I have and used for many years sometimes decades. Some gadgets are cool however I just don’t want to relearn something if the original gear works fine.

I define a gadget as something that is handy but not a necessity. Occasionally, a gadget earns its way into my pack and becomes a necessity.

Take for instance my flashlight, like many hunters I have used the light on my cell phone, but I have also fumbled around and dropped it. The big, bulky, heavy flashlight which always seems to be on the bottom of my pack when I need it has been replaced. The DEX FingerLight is now my go to light.

Story Behind DEX FingerLight

Tom Mitchell, the developer of the DEX FingerLight, has been a bowhunter since 1977. He had been working in the medical implant business when he came across a hand light used for surgeries. He took note of the light and immediately imagined a new use for it.

“I hate wearing a headlight when I go into my stand when I bow hunt.” says Mitchell. “I don’t want anything to know when I’m going into my stand, so I quit using a light which is unsafe.”

Mitchell and his sons, Jake and Ben, began developing the DEX FingerLight in 2022 with a product launch in March of 2025.

DEX FingerLight Features

The DEX FingerLight is made from a durable patented Griptonite Ring which adjusts to any finger size or over a glove without breaking the ring. It has a copper core molded inside the ring to allow it to bend as needed. The ring can bend more than 4,000 times without breaking.

The DEX FingerLight is IPX7 Waterproof which is the standard of being submerged up to a meter for 30 minutes.

“In reality, it can exceed that as several of my clients have put it through a full washing machine cycle and the dryer on more than one occasion and it still works fine.” says Mitchell.

It features a standard USB-c rechargeable lithium polymer battery and can be charged from a wall unit or any laptop or other USB-c device. It offers three light modes: bright, dim and stealth green and has a memory of the last setting in use.

Runtime is 2 hours and 30 minutes on the dim setting. The green light settings keep burning for 2 hours 15 minutes and the bright setting will keep your path lit for 45 minutes without recharging. The battery takes under 2 hours to fully charge but it can be pulse charged for a shorter period. After the unit is fully charged it will last about 60 days in storage.

The DEX FingerLight is built tough. Mitchell has frozen the light, heated it up, submerged it in water and even froze the unit in ice and then melted the ice and it is still working.

1001 Uses & More

Though it is primarily marketed to hunters and fishermen “Fishermen love it for night fishing as the bugs don’t fly into your face like with a head lamp.” explains Mitchell.

“We focus most of our marketing toward the outdoor industry, other industries like HVAC and auto mechanics have found it useful. The DEX FingerLight also has a huge following with civilian and military pilots worldwide.

Mitchell had one customer who called to praise the light. He and his wife use it to check on their newborn twins and change diapers or feed the babies without having to use a bright overhead light at night.

“Its design is for up-close lighting without lighting everything around. It frees up your hands and you don’t have to put a flashlight in your mouth,” concludes Mitchell.

If you are looking to replace your old flashlight which always seems to be dead when you need it or you don’t want to fumble with your cell phone as a flashlight perhaps the DEX FingerLight is for you.
